José de Cordoba has been covering Latin America for the Wall Street Journal for the last thirty-five years. He has been based in Mexico since 1999. Before that, he covered the region from Miami. He has won a number of prizes, including the Maria Moors Cabot award, given by Columbia University, and InterAmerican Press Association awards for feature writing, investigative reporting, and reporting on inter-American relations.

 

He has also won two Overseas Press Club honorable mentions for Latin American reporting. Jose was born in Cuba and grew up in New York. Before joining the Journal, he worked for the Miami Herald. A graduate of Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, he started his career at the Caracas Daily Journal, where he also wrote for the Washington Post and the Boston Globe, among other publications.
