The Center for Media Integrity of the Americas (CMIA), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), hosted a Development workshop for journalists in Panama City, Panama, from January 13-17, 2025. The week-long program brought together 15 mid-career journalists from across the Americas to address pressing challenges in the field of journalism, including disinformation, ethical reporting, and the use of digital tools to enhance investigative reporting.

Throughout the week, participants engaged in hands-on training, expert-led sessions, and collaborative exercises designed by the University of Maryland's Phillip Merrill College of Journalism, UNDP and the CMIA to enhance their journalistic integrity and professional skills. The event highlighted the value of cross-border knowledge-sharing by incorporating regional experts, case studies, presentations and workshops tailored to the challenges faced by journalists in Latin America.
By hosting the program in Panama City, the Center and UNDP reinforced their commitment to decentralizing access to high-level training opportunities and empowering journalists closer to the communities they serve.
