The CMIA was present at the Washington Post's commemoration of World Press Freedom day in Washington, DC, on May 3. Organized by the Post's Director of Community Partnerships and Social Impact (and CMIA Advisory Board member), Natali Freeling. The event's panels and short films highlighted the cases of journalists unjustifiably detained by governments for holding truth to power through their reporting. An emotional discussion between the Post's own Jason Rezian and Danielle Gershowitz, sister of Wall Street Journal reporter, Evan Gershowitz, poignantly underscored the very painful and personal effects that attacks on press freedom inflict upon the families of journalists who take risks to find and report truth.
